ACPOMIT - Honorary Members

Honorary ACPOMIT Members- In recognition of their outstanding contribution to the Association of Orthopeadic Medicine.

Stephanie Saunders

Stephanie Saunders - Stephanie trained at St Thomas' Hospital, London with Dr James Cyriax and on graduating, was invited to work on, and then run, the Cyriax Unit there. She organised and lectured on all Dr Cyriax's courses in orthopaedic medicine in Europe and North America for many years.

She was founder member, first Vice Chair and Course Organiser for the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine, designing and running its course programme and examinations. She was also founder member, first Chair, Course Director and Editor for the CSP clinical interest group, The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Orthopaedic Medicine. She presented the first UK course in Injection Therapy for Physiotherapists in 1995 and continues to give courses in orthopaedic medicine and injection therapy, Stephanie was awarded the Fellowship of the CSP in 1997 .

She gained aspiration rights for physiotherapists from the CSP in 2001 and is currently on the CSP advisory prescribing group involved in introducing supplementary prescribing for chartered physiotherapists.

Steve Longworth - Since September 1985 I have been a full time principal in General Practice.

The East Leicester Medical Practice is a busy urban practice with 13,200 patients, many in deprived areas of the city. It is a teaching and training practice and a Trent research practice. There are 4 full time partners, one part time partner (who is also the Senior Lecturer in General Practice at the University of Leicester), 5 Associates/Assistants and one registrar.

I am a Hospital Practitioner (1 session per week) in the department of Orthopaedic Surgery (Surgical Spine clinic), University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (Leicester General Hospital), where I also teach medical undergraduates. I started as a Clinical Assistant in 1999 in the Orthopaedic Shoulder clinic.

I was a GP Specialist in Musculoskeletal Medicine (GPwSI, 1 session per week) in the department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (alternate sessions at Leicester General Hospital and the East Leicester Medical Practice) from 12.2000 to 1.2005. In this capacity I worked independently, seeing patients triaged from the Orthopaedic waiting list. I resigned, reluctantly and after much soul searching, to free up time for practice-related non-clinical work.

Christine Mallion - Christine was made an honorary member of ACPOM in recognition of her work for the Association. Chris died in March 2008 after a short illness and will be sadly missed by many ACPOMIT members and other colleagues.

Christine qualified in 1976 from Salford University and has practised both in Canada and the UK. She worked in private practice full time since 1990 and had a clinic in Altrincham, Cheshire.

She was former chairman of Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Orthopaedic Medicine (ACPOMIT) and was involved with the first courses teaching physiotherapists steroid injections and the development of Clinical Guidelines for Injection Therapy.

She has been teaching Orthopaedic Medicine since 1998 in the UK and Portugal.

She was a member of ACPOMIT, ACPSM, OCPPP and has a special interest in diagnostic ultrasound scanning and the use of Shock wave therapy for the treatment of chronic tendinopathy.

Lyn Ankcorn - A private practitioner after many years at University Hospital Birmingham, Selly Oak in outpatients, fracture clinic, and soft tissue injury clinic, where I introduced Injection Therapy, as one of the first participants of the ACPOMIT IT course run by Stephanie. Somehow found myself as secretary of ACPOMIT for rather a long period!
